  Show and Tell

Name/ Description of Shared Item

  1.    Jan Prytz - made two quilts when she was younger and worked at a furniture store where she received the discarded cotton fabric samples. Jan also made a quilt for the Riley Blake Rock Star Challenge - three disappearing blocks pattern.
  2.    Angelica Jones - made a rainbow block with her daughter, which will be made into a pillow. Her daughter selected the fabrics and was involved with the construction. Angelica also made a quilt with the February BOM heart blocks.
  3.    Susan Long - Susan provided a tip to prevent seams splitting on blocks on the edge of your quilt top - sew about an 1/8 inch seam all around the perimeter of your quilt top before you begin handling and adding batting. Susan shared the second quilt she made - she had always been sewing, but thought she would give quilting a try about 3 years ago and got hooked! She also shared a wall hanging - buildings forming a star - dresden plate pattern is modified to create buildings.  Susan made a mini quilt using the improv method to "stretch" herself and made a facing instead of binding. Susan agreed to provide the group a tutorial on creating facings in lieu of bindings in the future.
  4.    Sue Gillaspie - Finished a quilt for her son who just finished the Fireman Academy and now looking for a permanent position. Quilt is black, red, white and gray - stunning pattern and use of fabric to reflect son's profession.
  5.    Madelynn MacRunnel - Took her first quilt class in 1988 and showed her quilt from the class. It was quilted by hand; then machine. Second quilt from the 1990s was quilted by hand.
  6.    Nancy Thomas - Second or third quilt from her recollection - her sister quilted it about 20 years after it was pieced! It was pieced in the 1990s.  Nancy also made a baby log cabin quilt using a corner block setting. Nancy also finished her Llama Bag - she even put embroidered flowers on the llama's head!
  7.    Linda Bretton - She got a completed quilt top in Oregon that needed repair. She repaired and quilted it. Linda showed her baby quilt made by both of her grandmothers (one pieced it and one quilted it). Linda's oldest quilt was made about 10 years ago using July 4th fabrics - stunning use of fabrics!
  8.    Patti Zimmerman - first quilt is from 1978, and she used a quilt as you go on the pattern. Her most recent quilt top is called Feathers, a Anna Maria Horner pattern.
  9.    Maritza Farr - Completed her first quilt in 1990 in a class. It was hand pieced and quilted, she learned fabric color values as part of the process as well. Her second quilt was completed in 1991 for her daughter - quilt is referred to by the family as the "puppy quilt" and it is now being enjoyed by the grandkids! Maritza made a table runner using the February BOM heart pattern. She also made a wall hanging quilt top using the EPP project from the workshop Colleen gave the TVMQG members in November 2016.
  10. Taylor Darby - Taylor shared that she gave away her first quilt, but she had her second quilt which she made with her mother-in-law in 2012.

EPP paper shapes can be found on Paperpieces.com as well as at Primitive Gatherings. Colleen explained how to purchase and match pieces.
