Presentations

  1. BOM is a paper pieced Christmas Star:  See the TVMQG Blog for the pattern.
    1. ACTION ITEM: All members are requested to bring in the BOM for next month’s meeting.
    2. REMINDER: instructions are up on the blog.
    3. Block needs to be 12.5 in, but the pattern isn’t 12in. So make a border or find another solution to make it 12.5 inches.
  2. Angelica gave a presentation on paper piecing
    1. When choosing fabric for the project remember; it is more difficult to orient small pieces of fabric and directional fabric. Consider using larger pieces of non-directional, fabric when learning to paper piece.
    2. Print out the pattern.
    3. Check for seam allowance on paper pattern and make sure they are visible.
    4. Note on the paper pattern which fabric will be used for each piece.
    5. Cut out individual sections of the paper pattern making sure not to cut off seam allowances.Set your machine to a smaller stitch than normally used on your machine. (longer stitches will not perforate the paper enough and the paper will be difficult to tear away when done)
    6. Lay fabric face down.
    7. Sections should be numbered starting with “1”. Find number “1” and place paper piece face up onto the fabric. Cut fabric around a paper piece.
    8. Fasten a piece of fabric to paper however you choose (i.e. hold it, glue it, pin it)
    9. Lay a large piece of fabric for second section face down onto seam between sections “1” and “2” making sure it will cover section “2” when it is flipped back over.
    10. Sew along the line on the paper piece between sections “1” and “2”.
    11. Trim excess fabric in the seam allowance, open seam, and roll flat.
    12. Repeat steps “j” through “l” for the paper piece “3” and sew along the paper line between section “3” and previously sewn piece.
    13. Continue with consecutive pieces until the pattern is finished. Once each subsection is assembled, individual subsections will need to be sewn together along paper seam allowance.
    14. Rip paper out when done.
