Meeting Information -Monthly Meeting

Board Member Absent: Susan Long, Vice President of Charity Projects

Meeting Discussion

2.                  Jan Prytz, the President, informed the group of the following:
a.                 On our Facebook page we had a message regarding the San Diego Quilt Show
i.                        September 20-22nd
ii.                        If you’re interested in going contact Lauren of the SDMQG about tickets (you can find her Facebook post on our page)
b.                 QuiltCon Charity Challenge: the theme is “small pieces”
 .                        Does anyone want to head this project?
c.                 9 quilt tops were finished as of our June meeting.
                                                                           .                  We need people to quilt the finished quilt tops using backing purchased by the guild.
                                                                           i.                  Batting will be purchased by individual quilters then the guild will reimburse the quilter when the quilting is finished and the quilt is returned.
                                                                         ii.                  Quilts should be quilted and returned by August meeting

3.                  Treasurer’s Report: The account balance as of as of June 20th, 2018 was $1159.99.

4.                  Raffle Ticket WINNERS:

Show and Tell
Attendees sharing items - All beautiful and creative projects shared! The group enjoyed seeing all them too!  See the TVMQG Blog post for photos.

1.   Linda: bought two kits of Kaffe Fassett, and then bought extra fabric on etsy to make the quilt enormous.
  1. Nancy D: showed us a cute sunflower appliqué she did in a class she took recently
  2. Patricia: showed us a very detailed, hand-embroidered Halloween piece she is planning on framing
  3. Wendy: brought in a star quilt she made using her new long arm
  4. Corey (Wendy’s son): brought in a colorful quilt he made and quilted using his mom’s long arm
  5. Jessica: brought in a cute purse she made using a pattern in a sewing magazine and fabric from Primitive Gatherings. She also brought in an enormous, colorful, Tula Pink kitty quilt she has been working on.  She also started a Harley Davidson quilt for her neighbor using Harley Davidson T-shirts (TIP: iron on the stabilizer before cutting out the shirt design.)

a.                 ACTION ITEM: All members are requested to bring in the “strip-step block” BOM for next month’s meeting.

3.                  Patricia showed us a quick presentation on hand embroidery
a.                 Gave us a hand embroidery handout that folds into a little book
b.                 Uses Pellon Grab N Go Lightweight Fusible and Pellon SF101 stabilizers
c.                 Uses #12 pearl cotton floss (usually #8 but likes #12 for detail and writing)
d.                 Likes to refer to her Leisure Arts Embroidery Pocket Guide for guidance on stitches
e.                 Highly recommends a thimble or Poke-A-Dots by Jillily Studio

Upcoming Meeting and BOM presentations

NOTE:  The block can be made in any fabric color desired.   The instructions are on the TVMQG Blog. Block needs to be completed to measure 12.5".  
                 
  1. Our July meeting will be our jelly roll race.
a.                 ACTION ITEM: Bring sewing machine, one 40-42 piece jelly roll, scissors, and plenty of thread.

  1. Bring back charity quilts to the August meeting at the latest.
  2. The charm pack challenge is due at our September meeting.
