Meeting Discussion


1.      Jan Prytz, the President, informed the group of the following:
a.     Jan shared some fundraising ideas
                                                               i.      Sell guild shirts, mugs, project bags
                                                             ii.      Develop and sell a quilt pattern
                                                            iii.      Increase Dues
                                                          iv.      Boutique on May 3rd

2.      New Quilty Challenge: The Charm Pack Challenge (Due October)
3.      Charity quilt kits will be available for you to “take and make”. Bring them back at the June meeting.

Show and Tell

Attendees sharing items - All beautiful and creative projects shared! The group enjoyed seeing all them too!  See the TVMQG Blog posting for pictures.


1.      Wendy brought a quilt she made for her grandson, Asher.
2.      Linda shared some samples she made at an Angela Walters class. She also made a basket
3.      Sherry shared a monster quilt she made and shared a quilt she made using the blocks she won at a previous guild meeting raffle.
4.      Maritza shared a blue-green jellyroll quilt.
5.      Sue shared a cowboy quilt for her son, “Rooster”.
6.      Taylor shared a bag she made using a panel from a Japanese fabric booth at QuiltCon.
7.      Natalie shared some blocks she made for a color challenge from a class she went to. She also shared a quilt she made inspired by the Pine Burr quilt.
8.      Nancy T shared a Spring Windmill quilt and some swatches from a Pamela Whiley workshop.

Presentations


1.      BOM is the Tulip presented by Colleen. See the TVMQG Blog for the pattern
a.     ACTION ITEM: All members are asked to bring in the BOM to next month’s meeting.

Meeting Discussion


1.    Jan Prytz, the President, informed the group of the following:
a.    A year-end drawing for a 2019 TVMQG membership will be held at our Christmas Party.  Everyone who does a “BOM” presentation or “how-to” presentation at a meeting in 2018 will be in the drawing.
b.    Shared an idea for stretching the charity blocks to make 10 quilts instead of only five quilts: showed an example of an asymmetric border around fewer blocks, and/or Jan could cut kits and hand out kits to members to help assemble quilts.
2.   Paint Chip Challenge Show and Tell:
a.    Jan shared an arrow quilt she made.  She was inspired by a quilt she saw at QuiltCon a few years ago.
b.    Madelynn shared some blocks she made using a pattern Judy shared.
c.    Jessica shared a quilt she made using a modified churndash pattern she found.
d.    Jane shared a couch quilt she made with a 60˚ triangle and Imperial fabric.
e.    Susan shared a wall quilt she made.  She was inspired by a photo of some grain silos she found on Instagram.  She actually had to use math when planning out her design!
f.     Maritza made two mats using a Whirlpool Accuquilt pattern.  She did some experimenting with the quilting pattern, and was successful!

1.    Jan shared two quilts to show idea for stretching our charity blocks from five quilts to 10 quilts.
2.    Maritza shared a whole cloth quilt she made using navy blue fabric and a light colored thread for the quilting.
3.    Nancy shared some hand embroidery she did using off-white fabric and red thread.  She made three pieces using snowman designs and one piece using a bunny design.
4.    Patricia shared two Frida purses and a cosmetic bag she made.
5.    Wendy shared an oversized bag she made from blue and white floral fabric.
6.    Sherry made to small quilts under Wendy’s instruction.  She’s learning to quilt.
7.    Linda attended the Beautiful Background Fillers, Narrow Borders, and Backgrounds classes by Margaret Solomon-Gunn and brought in her finished products from the classes.
8.    Susan Long shared a mug rug she made from the scraps she collected when making her microwave bowls.

Presentations


1.    BOM is arrows, inspiration for the "Giving Quilt" presented by Jan Prytz. Jan informed us the pattern will make a weird shape at one point, but this is normal.  See the TVMQG Blog for the pattern
a.    ACTION ITEM: All members and guests are asked to consider completing a block and bring it to the March meeting.
2.    Microwave bowl – Susan long showed us how to make microwave bowl using a pattern from Linds Mayland (@lindsmayland).  Soup Bowl Cozy Pattern can also be found at Happy Hour Stitches

Meeting Discussion

1.    Jan Prytz, the President, conducted an informal meeting due to the unexpected change in the meeting location. The following was discussed/shared:
    1. First batch of charity quilts, approximately 5, will be donated to Jacob's House. The next batch will go to Arbor Hospice.
    2.  
    3. Jessica Rittgarn will be coordinating meeting ideas this year, so let her know if you have any ideas. Also, let her know if you would like to do a presentation or if you know of someone who is interested. Our calendar currently has 4 openings.
    4.  
    5. The March meeting will be a rope bowl sew-in project. Bring a sewing machine that can do a zig zag stitch. At the February meeting, Susan Long will collect $10.50 for those wishing for her to purchase your rope. Members are free to purchase their rope as well.
    6.  
    7. Show and Tell - several members shared projects, but we were most impressed with Angelica's 7 year old daughter, Isabela, who shared a lovely quilt top and mug rug.
    8.  
    9. QuiltCon Charity quilt was longarm machine quilted by NancyThomas. Angelica Jones volunteered to apply the binding and deliver the quilt to Colleen Molen for QuiltCon before the deadline.
    10.  
    11. July Meeting will be a Jelly Roll Quilt top charity sew-in in lieu of a meeting; to be held at Primitive Gatherings. A second sew-in was also discussed, and would be held at Jane Rowland's home. For both sew-ins members will need to use a 42 strip jelly roll in order to achieve the desired size quilt top. More details will follow for each sew-in.
2.    Treasurer's Report - General and Charity Quilt Fund $1,091.44.

NOTE:  The block can be made in any fabric color desired, but with a low volume background fabric. The instructions are on the TVMQG Blog. Block needs to be completed to measure 12.5".  

1.    BOM sign-up list will be distributed at the February meeting. A BOM will be shown in February for submission in March. Please bring all unfinished blocks to the February meeting, use this as an opportunity to catch up on your blocks. Also, if you have any orphan blocks or blocks that can be modified to 12.5 inches, please consider donating these as well.
2.    TVMQG now has a Pinterest account and one of the boards is 12" blocks.

FEBRUARY MEETING - will be held on the 15th at Primitive Gatherings. Bring your catch-up BOMs, your Paint Chip Challenge project, and $10.50 if you wish for Susan Long to purchase your rope for the March meeting project.

  1. Jan Prytz, the President, informed the group of the following:
    1. MQG has sent several emails reminding members that they must claim their free four-day pass for QuiltCon 2018 before November 30th. After November 30th, members must pay for day show tickets or four-day passes. Member discounts on workshops and lectures also expire on this date. There are still open seats in several classes - check the MQG site - link in Community. Deadline for entries is also November 30th. Learn how to submit and details at quiltconentry.com
    2. Next meeting is our Christmas Party. It will be at Primitive Gatherings on December 21. Bring finger foods for our "lite" potluck. Jessica will be conducting an ice breaker too. Please bring a mug with a mug rug for a brown bag gift exchange. Gifts will be passed around like last time. Blind swap!
    3. TVMQG has already registered with MQG that we are participating in the QuiltCon Charity Quilt.
    4. Board member elections - two new Board members voted in - Treasurer Madelyn MacRunnel; and Secretary Taylor Darby. Continuing in office are Jan Prytz, President; and Vice-President Jessica Rittgarn. Committee Chairs are Angelica Jone, Social; and Susan Long, Charity Quilts.
  2. Treasurer's Report - General Fund $824.31 and Charity Quilt Fund $106.
  3. QuiltCon Charity Quilt Sew Day - will be December 2 at Colleen's home. Nancy Thomas volunteered to quilt the quilt top once completed. Susan Long volunteered to machine bind the quilt. Colleen will be sending an email approximately one week prior with details for the Sew Day.
  4. Paint Chip Challenge - See rules posted on the TVMQG blog. Members who had not selected paint chips last month were given an opportunity to select paint chips to draw - could pick 2 or 3; can add another color; can add a neutral. Can be prints or solids. Projects can be anything quilted. Projects are due February 2018.
  5. Pincushion Swap - two members participated and exchanged pincushions (Patricia and Jessica).

  1. Maritza Farr - made two additional blocks for the original magazine photo challenge.
  2. Angelica Jones - shared mug rugs she is making for someone's Christmas presents.
  3. Nancy DiLeva - shared a baby vintage quilt with embroidery, pintucks, lace, etc.
  4. Nancy Thomas - shared a quilt that won second place in the North Dakota Quilt Guild show. Also shared a quilt top completed from a kit - red, white and blue for her daughter who is in the Navy.
  5. Colleen Molen - went to Oregon last weekend to quilt and shared a Cotton + Steel Flying Geese Quilt top.
  6. Jessica Rittgarn - used a pattern from Primitive Gatherings to make a snowman for Christmas wall decor.
  7. Patti Zimmerman - wore a quilted jacket made using a See N Sew pattern and Treasure Hunt fabric from Primitive Gatherings. Also, shared pillow covers and paper pieced triangles. (Jan will send link to the paper pieced triangles blog.)
  8. Susan Long - shared her magazine challenge quilt inspired by a picture of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Picture was from the Costco magazine. Also shared two Christmas wall hangings she did as a pattern tester for Quilt Art. On the latter she used machine applique.
  9. Linda Bretton - she went to the Houston International Quilt Show. She also brought a quilt she made a few years ago - Garden Applique (needle turn).
  10. Bonnie Hallett - shared quilt she made in her Craftsy class.

  2. How We Bind - Angelica, Colleen, Maritza and Jan shared how they bind their quilts. Each had a different approach.
  3. Fat Quarter Game - Jan explained the rules and attendees were broken up into two groups. Everyone enjoyed themselves - lots of laughter.
