August 2018 Meeting Minutes



Meeting Minutes

Meeting Information -Monthly Meeting     

Date:  August 16, 2018     
Location:      Primitive Gatherings, Murrieta, CA          Time: 6:30 PM      
Attendees:   16 Members, 2 Guests                  
Board Members Present: Jan Prytz, President; Jessica Rittgarn, Vice President of Meetings; Madelynn MacRunnel, Treasurer; Taylor Darby, Secretary; Susan Long, Vice President of Charity Projects
Board Member Absent: Angelica Jones, Vice President of Social Media

Meeting Discussion

  1. Jan Prytz, the President, informed the group of the following:
    1. October we will submit 2019 board nominations, and in November we will vote for 2019 board members.
    2. Charity quilts need to be bound and turned in at our September meeting.
    3. Next month’s meeting we will have a yard sale amongst ourselves.  Bring anything you would like to donate.
    4. We are not having a board meeting until October 4th.
    5. Our charm pack challenge quilts are due next month.
    6. There are two charity quilts that still need to be pieced.
  1. Treasurer’s Report: The account balance as of as of August 16th, 2018 was $871.10.
 .                     Cash was withdrawn for our July meeting was kept separate from the account and brought to the meeting to pay any members who finished quilting a charity quilt. The $20 each was meant to pay for the batting.
  1. Jessica Rittgarn, the Vice President of Meetings, informed the group of the following:
 .                    She will be sending out an email with information regarding our sit-n-sew to get our QuiltCon Challenge quilt started.
                                                                           i.                  The plan is to meet this Sunday, August 19th, 2018. At about 10:00am.

Show and Tell
Attendees sharing items - All beautiful and creative projects shared! The group enjoyed seeing all them too!  See the TVMQG Blog posting for pictures.

1.   Patty – Shared a quilt she made using a Jen Kingwell pattern and all Primitive Gatherings fabrics.

2.           Colleen – Made a mini-pieced block for her San Diego Quilt Guild.  She made a mini “bear cub” quilt.

3.                  Jessica – Shared her finished jelly roll quilt top from our jelly roll race last meeting.  She also showed us a finished t-shirt quilt top she made for her neighbor.

4.                  Rosanne – Shared her finished jelly roll quilt top from our jelly roll race last meeting.

5.                  Jane – Shared a book she found called Trade Quilts by David Butler. The book is filled with more masculine looking quilts.  She shared a flannel quilt top she made for her nephew using a pattern from the book.

6.                  Jeanie – Shared a king-sized quilt top she made called Moonlight Senada.

7.                  Madelynn – Shared the finished jelly roll quilt top from our jelly roll race last meeting.

8.                  Linda – Shared the finished queen-sized quilt she shared last month when it was only a quilt top.

9.                  Maritza – Shared a quilt she made using a new technique she learned called “one-block-wonder”.

10.             Susan – Shared her first hand-embroidered piece.  She made a flowery throw pillow.

Presentations

  1. BOM is a hybrid 9-patch block:  See the TVMQG Blog for the pattern.  
a.                 ACTION ITEM: All members are requested to bring in the BOM for next month’s meeting.
b.                 REMINDER: instructions are up on the blog.
  1. Colleen gave a Color Theory Presentation
 .                    Primary, secondary, and tertiary colors
a.                 Hues vs shades, tints, and tones.
b.                 Values: adding white, black, or (in the case of watercolors) water to only one hue to get a wide range of colors.
c.                 We played with color chips in a Color Theory activity.
d.                 We played with fabric while we learned about values versus colors.
i.                        Use a cell phone to take a black and white photo of your fabric choices in order to make better fabric choices in regards to value.
e.                 Using the “rule of parts” you can manipulate focal points in your quilt design.

Upcoming Meeting and BOM presentations

NOTE:  The block can be made in any fabric color desired.   The instructions are on the TVMQG Blog. Block needs to be completed to measure 12.5".  
                 

  1. Bring back charity quilts to the September meeting at the latest.
  2. Charm pack challenge quilts are due next month.
  3. At the September meeting, we will have a guild “yard sale”.
  4. The charm pack challenge is due at our September meeting.
  5. Angelica will be presenting paper piecing at our November meeting.
